RAAAAAAAARG!!!!!!!!!!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I am ridiculously tired at the moment - and also stressed!
My 3rd year dissertation/research project is due in in just under 2 weeks, and I still have quite a lot to do!!
I've handed in my first draft to my supervisor, but he won't answer my emails about when I should go and see him about it!
Maybe he's ignoring me because I keep on pestering him...lol I would have to beat him up if this is the case!!

Anyway, apart from that my life is dandy...NOT.
I seem to have caught this upper respiratory tract infection that EVERYONE has at the moment.
Even the doctor was like "not another one *shakes head*".
So I am also drugged up on antibiotics.
Which means I can't drink for a week.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah well, life's just not easy is it...
To escape from the stress of modern life (?), I've been watching my current favourite animes:)
One of them is Gintama - how hilarious is this series!?
I started watching it coz Ishida-san stars in it as Katsura, but I've become so hooked!!!!!!
It's the first time I've seen an anime which purely exists to make the audience laugh!
I'm not saying there isn't a story line, coz there is. ...its just a very loose one!
All the jokes in it are SO funny and they do a lot of parodies from other animes, which make it even more hilarious!
especially if their parodies of old-time classic animes and stuff - the newest episode had Char from Gundam in it - what the!?
And all the characters are so funny and weird, it's hilarious just watching them argue over some really random rubbish!

Anyway, where is this rant going? Nowhere!
I tried to order a magazine from the Japanese bookshop the other day and they still haven't got back to me...
It's the "Voice NewType" that Ishida-san is in... I hope they can get hold of it coz it looks really good!
That reminds me, I've also ordered the MOTONAVI that Hiroshi was in a couple of weeks ago...
it's been a while, hope they get it soon!!!

Ah well, back to the dreaded dissertation...

Another thing!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

A less random post dedicated to my current obsession...

A delayed but great big CONGRATULATIONS to Ishida-san for winning the
'Best male subcharacter' prize in the Seiyuu Awards!!!

As a votee myself, I'm so happy for Ishida-san!
I guess he was happy too, because in most of the pictures I've seen of the ceremony,
he's actually looking quite smiley -  a rarity for our camera-shy Ishidasan :)

Congratulations again!

Random news again

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I read an interesting news story on the internet yesterday about some storks in Japan,
that had been separated as a result of their 'forbidden love'.

Apparently, a pair of storks (Ciconia boyciana ) which had started to form a mating pair had to be separated
because they were brother and sister.
In Japan, these storks are designated as protected species because of the decrease in population,
and so some storks which had been reared at the protection centre had been released into the wild to breed freely.
But zoologists found that a pair of storks that had built a nest together and had been seen to 'perform mating behaviour' had actually been from the same parents, and so separated them by recapturing the male and keeping him in captivity.

Apparently some people were quite reluctant with this idea.
They thought 'but they're animals, do they have morals? Let them be, especially if they're a protected species!'
But this is a big no no in the world of genetics.

Incest, or inbreeding, is a very dangerous act in nature as there is a higher risk of producing 'unhealthy offspring'.
This is because there is a higher risk of faulty genes being carried on to the offspring.
Even if it's a faulty gene that's quite rare which only has effect when 2 copies are present,
if you have a brother and sister that have the same parents, they are more likely to both have the same faulty gene.
This means that if these two siblings breed, the offspring have an extremely high risk of carrying 2 copies of the gene,
and so can be unhealthy, or have reduced fertility when they are born.
Also, inbreeding causes reduced genetic diversity and can actually wipe out populations.
I think I read a paper somewhere that cheetahs are at a risk at the moment because of excessive inbreeding -
because they all have the same-ish genes, if a new virus comes along they will all die,
as there won't be any cheetahs that potentially are genetically different and have resistance to this virus.

This made me think - I wonder if the human's moral argument came about from  this idea?
i.e. did someone come up with the idea 'incest is bad!' because they knew of the scientific background behind it,
maybe because they knew that offspring from sibling marriages died early or were unwell?

Interesting.....

Random news stories

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

As this is the first time I've ever done anything like keeping a blog,
I'm slightly confused about what to write or do with it!!
My interests are diverse but because I live in a different country to where my main interests are,
I'm not going to have loads of new information or up-to-date reviews...
But hey, I guess I'll just write random rubbish that I feel like,
which will probably involve a lot about my main interests (V6 and Ishidasan) anyway!!

Anyway, what made me write this entry was a news story I just read on yahoo japan.

Apparently more and more Japanese universities are preventing students from graduating
if they haven't returned back their library books...

...Is this not normal in Japan!?

If I remember correctly one of the first things they said to us when we started university was
that if we are in any debt to the university, INCLUDING LIBRARY FINES, we can't graduate.
So I thought that this was normal... but obviously not in Japan!
Apparently there's been loads of cases in Japanese unis where students have just been running
off with their books, so to prevent this they are taking these measures - should have thought of that earlier eh!?

I'm currently at a Uni in London but I find it v interesting when I hear stuff about Japanese unis from my friends.
Althought the purposes of the institutions are the same, there's an amazing number of differences.
Comparing cultures can be interesting, especially if you know a little of both!!

...ok, so my first proper entry wasn't really to do with my interests at all, but hey!
Maybe I'll write this sort of random stuff aswell...
just spill my brain's inner thoughts onto my PC screen!

Ah, it's ohinasama in Japan today - Ohinasama omedetou!!

This is my first ever post and I'm not quite sure if it's actually going to work...
But hey, there's a first time for everything!
Let's hope for the best...
